Favorite Place on Campus

For this project, I took a picture of where my friends and I hang out the most. Through all the years we've been in high school together, we formed a little family. And the bench may seem pretty insignificant, but it is where we have made memories- both the good and the bad. To sit at that spot makes me feel safe and happy.

Warm up to AJA project

Each photo I have taken represents a memory or favorite place of mine that has made me into the person I am today. Not all of them may make sense, but they hold a special place in my heart, for the symbolize my past.

Hands and Feet

For this project, I roamed around Embarcadero in San Francisco, as well as Angle Island, to find some interesting captures. All the photos were captured without manipulating any of my subjects or directing them in any certain way. The first photo I caught while my brother and his girlfriend clasped hands out of endearment. The second photo was taken right after the couple let go of each other, and I found the girlfriend trying to keep her hands busy while watching my brother walk away. The third photo was trying to capture three friends hiking up a stairway at Angel Island. And finally, the last photo was when I was walking around near Ghiradelli Square in San Francisco, and found a little girl sitting on some stairs, her mouth and nose covered with chocolate. After asking her mom if I may take a picture of her, she tightened the teddy bear to her chest and gave me this photo of her.
I wanted to keep these photos looking as organic as possible, so I made very minor changes to shadows, the clarity of the image, its highlights, and manipulated the amount of in the photos.

Historical Houses

I took my photos at the Catholic Cemetery and Amtrak Station in Martinez, as well as Rogers Ranch in Pleasant Hill. My first photo was a double exposure as well as an appropriate indoor exposure in an indoor setting, which meets both of the asked requirements for the project. The rest of the photos I took in a late afternoon lighting and followed a family of deer for the majority of my shoot in the cemetery.

Sense Of Place: College Park

For this sense of place project, I wanted to capture the essence of College Park. I like the locker and pool image because they show some great detail and I really tried to get some good angles. I like the hallway image because the edits I made give it an eerie, almost hospital like look. I edited all these pictures in photoshop by playing with the contrast tools in the black and white setting, as well as erasing some of the black and white layer in the pool photo to give the picture a bit of pop.

AJA Project: The Effects of Stress

For my AJA project, I wanted to capture how teenagers can only take on so much stress until they break. I used tools, on Photoshop and Lightroom, like blur, cool tone, black and white layers, and also played with the brightness and contrast tools a lot. I have two of the same images up with different effects on both because I did not know which one I preferred more, so I shall leave that decision up to you.

Silver Efex

BEFORE

AFTER

While editing this photo in Silver Efex, I changed the brightness -18%. The filter I used was full dynamic harsh, and I changed the contrast to 34%. The structure was changed to 100%. For the final touches, I put an All Edges 1 burn and added a type 13 Image border.

Night Scape

I took these photos at the Santa Barbara pier and put these images in black and white in lightroom. I also played with the shadows, light and exposure in my editing process to get the effect I wanted. I also cropped the top and bottom pictures.

Save Mt.Diablo

I made very minimal edits to these photos to fit the requirements for the contest. Just played with the blacks, fill light, and recovery mostly.

City Life

For this photo, I played with the fill light and black tool. I also added a cyanotype filter to give the photo an old/ cold tone to go with the antiquity of the theatre.
I cropped this picture slightly and changed the whole picture to be black and white. I enhanced the darks and blacks just a little to capture the bubble more clearly.

Didn't crop this picture at all and actually played with the colors a little. I enhanced the yellow slightly to make some of the posters pop off of their blue background. I felt like this was one of my stronger photo's because it captures the student life on telegraph.

I used a sepia filter on this picture to enhance the emotions that I thought the man seemed to be displaying. Cropped the image slightly and enhanced the darks just a little bit.

For this photo, I changed the image to black and white and wanted to focus on just the little girl, so I cropped the image. I wanted to keep the softness of the photo, so I didnt want to hurt that by enhancing the darks.

I enhanced the blacks/ darks and also cropped the image. I thought this photo best displayed the chill/ nomadic vibe that Berkley can give.

I used the cyanotype filter again on this photo, but enhanced the lights in it instead of darkening it like the first image. This photo is my strongest one because it captures the young life and relaxed motion of Telegraph.

I cropped and played with the color tools in this photo. I increased the blacks and darks in the picture to clearly display the lettering on the sign.

I edited this image very minimally and only boosted a few of the colors because the image is already so busy as it is. I wanted to use it though because I thought it captured the hippie scene Berkley is known for just perfectly.
